Ryan Patterson to Compete at South African Nationals

Junior is set to compete Friday-Saturday in Klerksdorp with eyes on a National title

KLERKSDORP, South Africa – California Golden Bears junior Ryan Patterson is set to compete on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 at the South African High Performance Artistic Gymnastics National Championships in Klerksdorp. Patterson, who has dual citizenship in both the United States and South Africa, will be competing in the all-around competition. This competition will showcase the best junior and senior gymnasts in all high performance categories from across South Africa, with National titles on the line.

Patterson had a breakout sophomore season for the Bears in 2014, setting new career bests in the floor exercise (15.250), still rings (14.250), vault (15.100), parallel bars (14.500) and high bar (14.850). He played a big role in Cal’s first win over Stanford since 2012 on Jan. 25 at the Stanford Open, posting a team-high 15.200 on floor exercise and scored a 14.250 or above on vault and parallel bars.
