BERKELEY - The College Gymnastics Association announced today that California Golden Bears redshirt senior Donothan Bailey was named the Division I CGA Gymnast of the Week. This is the first time this season that Bailey has earned this distinction, as voted on by the NCAA men's coaches. Bailey was also named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week earlier in the week for his all-around performance at the Stanford Open this past weekend. No. 5 California placed second at the meet, finishing just behind last season's national champion, Michigan and ahead of Bay Area rival Stanford and Washington.
Bailey had his best all-around performance of the season on Saturday night at the Stanford Open. He earned a score of 88.900 total points, earning the all-around title and was instrumental in leading the California Golden Bears to their first win of the season, and first victory over Bay Area rival Stanford since April of 2012. Bailey scored a meet-best 15.400 on pommel horse, and earned 14.950 on both floor exercise and horizontal bar. Cal's overall team score has improved each of the three weeks to open the 2014 season, posting a 430.200 total score.
Cal does not compete this weekend, and returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Haas Pavilion when they host Arizona State at 2 p.m.
