BERKELEY - The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced today that California Golden Bears redshirt senior Donothan Bailey was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week. This marks the first time this season that Bailey has earned this distinction, and does so following his all-around performance at the Stanford Open this past weekend. No. 5 California placed second at the meet, and earned their first win under Associate Head Coach Brett McClure.
Bailey had his best all-around performance of the season on Saturday night at the Stanford Open. He earned a score of 88.900 total points, earning the all-around title and was instrumental in leading the California Golden Bears to their first win of the season, and first victory over Bay Area rival Stanford since April of 2012. Bailey scored a meet-best 15.400 on pommel horse, and earned 14.950 on both floor exercise and horizontal bar. Cal's overall team score has improved each of the three weeks to open the 2014 season, and saw them crack 430 for the first time on Saturday, when they placed second behind last year's national champion Michigan and ahead of both Stanford and Washington.
California is off this week, and returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Haas Pavilion when they host Arizona State at 2 p.m.
