BERKELEY – Sophomore quarterback Jared Goff was named Tuesday to the watch list for the College Football Performance Awards Quarterback Trophy after having been named Monday to the watch list for the Maxwell Award. Goff is one of 40 quarterbacks on the CFPA watch list.

Goff broke Cal single-season records for passing yards (3,508), most yardage gained (3,508), total offense (3,446), passes completed (320) and passes attempted (531) in 2013 when he was one of three players on the team to start all 12 games and became the first true freshman quarterback in school history to start a season opener. He also threw 18 touchdown passes to tie for 10th on Cal’s all-time single-season list. In addition, Goff broke a single-game school record with 504 passing yards against Washington State and became the second quarterback in Pac-12 history to throw for 450 yards or more in a game three times, adding 450 in his collegiate debut against Northwestern and 485 against Portland State. He also threw for over 300 yards against both Ohio State (371) and Washington (336) to give him five 300-yard passing games, equaling Cal’s single-season record and tying for fourth all-time.

The goal of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Goff and the Golden Bears open the 2014 season at Northwestern on Aug. 30 before hosting the first of six home games at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium against Sacramento State on Sept. 6. Kickoff is at Noon PT on the Pac-12 Networks.

The Golden Bears will also play Pac-12 opponents Colorado (Sept. 27), Washington (Oct. 11), UCLA (Oct. 18) and Stanford (Nov. 22) in Berkeley before concluding the 2014 regular season by hosting a non-conference game against BYU on Nov. 29.

In addition, Cal will play a home contest against Oregon in the first-ever collegiate football game at Levi’s® Stadium on Friday, Oct. 24. The game will be televised by FOX Sports 1 with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. PT.

Cal has road Pac-12 contests at Arizona (Sept. 20), Washington State (Oct. 4), Oregon State (Nov. 1) and USC (Nov. 13) with the final road game of the regular season against the Trojans a Thursday night ESPN game at the Los Angeles Coliseum with kickoff at 6 p.m. PT.
