With today’s 62-28 victory by USC over California, the Trojans now lead the all-time series, 66-30-5. USC also extended its current win streak in the series to 10 games. The last time Cal beat the Trojans was in 2003 - 34-31, triple overtime in Berkeley.
Jared Goff ended the day 34-for-48 for 255 yards and three touchdown passes. Now with 3,136 passing yards this season, Goff ranks second on Cal’s single-season top-10 list. Pat Barnes is first with 3,499 yards in 1996. Goff also caught his first career pass.
Goff’s first and third touchdown passes went to Kenny Lawler, giving Lawler five touchdown receptions in the past two games. Lawler posted six catches for 54 yards on the day.
Goff’s second touchdown pass came on a flea flicker. Daniel Lasco took a handoff, and then flipped the ball back to Goff who hit Darius Powe in the end zone. It was Powe’s second career TD reception, first of 2013.
Khalfani Muhammad led Cal in rushing with 10 carries for 61 yards and his third rushing TD this season, fourth overall. Cal’s 195 team rushing yards were a season best, including Jeffrey Coprich’s career-high 10 carries for 55 yards.
Bryce Treggs caught eight passes for 39 yards. Treggs now ranks sixth on Cal’s single-season top 10 list for receptions with 69, while Chris Harper ranks seventh on that list with 68. Lavelle Hawkins is fifth with 72.
Michael Barton notched his first career sack in the second quarter, and tied his personal best in tackles with nine.
Jackson Bouza had his first career kick return in the first quarter, and later had a career-long 28-yard reception in the third quarter.
Bryce McGovern caught his first career pass in the fourth quarter, which marked the 20th Bear to record a reception this season.
USC’s three punt return touchdowns ties the Pac-12 record (3 by UCLA vs. Stanford in 1954) and the NCAA record. The last time Cal allowed multiple punt returns for touchdowns was also against USC on Nov. 6, 1965, when Mike Garrett returned two for TDs. The last time a Cal opponent blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown was in 2010 by Arizona State.
A total of 13 players – Mitchel Bartolo, Jackson Bouza, Mark Brazinski, Dan Camporeale, Deandre Coleman, Vincenzo D’Amato, Spencer Hagan, Lucas King, Brandon Madueno, Steffan Mos, Bill Tyndall, Chad Smith and Matt Williams – were honored prior to their final game at Memorial Stadium.

Ray Willsey passed away at the age of 85 on Monday. Cal wore a helmet decal with “Ray Willsey 1928-2013” on it to honor Cal’s former head coach (1964-71) and player (1951-52).
