Portera saw practice time at both wide receiver and running back during his first season at Cal, filling in at the latter spot during the team’s 2014 spring practices. Portera, who is expected to return to wide receiver in 2014, totaled 4,951 all-purpose yards and 54 touchdowns in three varsity prep campaigns from 2010-12, breaking Pat Tillman’s school record in the latter. He was his division’s Mount Hamilton League Offensive Player of the Year as a 2012 senior.

► Changed to his current uniform No. 82 beginning with the 2014 spring practices after wearing No. 39 in his first campaign with the Cal program

► Named the Mount Hamilton League Junior of the Year for his division in 2011 when he contributed 751 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on the ground over 91 carries, as well as 46 receptions for 716 yards and 12 touchdown catches, three kick returns for 103 yards and 11 punt returns for 169 yards
► Had his top rushing game in his junior campaign against Gilroy with 11 rushes for 182 yards and one touchdown, while adding 67 receiving yards and 29 yards on punt returns for a season-high 278 all-purpose yards
► Also had 15 carries for 165 yards and three scores against Willow Glen a game-winning catch against Pioneer in overtime and set a single-game state and section record for running backs with six touchdown receptions in a game against Independence among his season high eight catches and 127 yards receiving during his junior season
► Selected as his section’s Sophomore of the Year in 2010 when he had 762 rushing yards and six scores on the ground over 118 carries
► Had the biggest rushing game of his sophomore season with a season-high 154 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries vs. Gilroy
