BERKELEY – A trio of California freshmen have been named 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction after earning cumulative GPA’s of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Thursday.

Emily Catan, Kori Griswold and Nicole Henriksson were three of 82 players across the country to earn the distinction after their strong fall seasons in the classroom. The trio were previously honored as National Academic Squad selections and helped comprise the Golden Bear team that was a National Academic Team Award recipient.

Catan (Mountain View, Calif.) and Griswold (San Diego, Calif.) both redshirted this past season while Henriksson (Bell Canyon, Calif.) played in 14 games with two starts, one goal and one assist.
