BERKELEY - California men's soccer alumnus Steve Purdy will join the El Salvador National Team for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, Chivas USA - his Major League Soccer club - announced this week. The defender has been called up a total of 13 times by La Selecta.
The Gold Cup will run from July 7-28 in the United States, with El Salvador opening Group B action against Trinidad & Tobago on July 8 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. Fox Sports and Univision will broadcast the tournament's matches, including the El Salvador-Trinidad & Tobago clash that will air live 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on Fox Soccer Channel and Univision.
El Salvador will also play Honduras on July 12 in Miami and Haiti on July 15 in Houston as part of Group B. The July 28 final is slated for Soldier Field in Chicago.

Purdy, 28, joined Chivas USA this season and has so far played and started in three games for the club. A native of Bakersfield, Calif., the erstwhile Golden Bear (2003-06) previously played for the Portland Timbers and FC Dallas in MLS.
Another former Bear - Mike Munoz - is the head coach of the Chivas USA U16 Development Academy team. Munoz played at Cal from 2001-04.
