TARZANA, Calif. –California completed the first 36 holes of the Bruin Wave Invitational in the top half of the team standings after shooting a two-round 604 Monday at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana.

The Bears had a trying yet consistent performance through the two rounds with a 301 in the first round and 303 in the second to finish the opening day of the challenging tournament at +28. Top-ranked USC leads the field with a 573 (-3) while second-ranked UCLA sits second with a 578 (+2).

The brightest performance of the day belonged to sophomore Hannah Suh who sits sixth individually at 1-under after carding a 71 in the opening round and an even 72 in the second (71-72=143). Suh remained locked in from the start of the tournament with four pars to begin a day that started on the par-4 13th.

A bogey on the par-5 17th held the San Jose native at 1-over for half the round as she scored pars on her next eight holes before birdying the par-5 7th to knock her score back to even. With three holes remaining in the opening round, Suh birdied the par-3 1st hole to finish with a 1-under 71 – her best round since carding a 70 in the opening round of the Ptarmigan Classic in the fall opener.

Suh opened her second round just as strong with a birdie on the 13th hole to start the round and improved it to two-under after finishing the back nine with a bogey on the 16th and birdies on 17 and 18. She finished the round with five birdies overall but took six strokes on the par-5 12th – her final hole of the day – to finish the second round even and move her to sixth on the individual leaderboard with a 143 (-1).

Nicola Rössler sits tied for 21st Monday night with a 74-76=150 (+6), three strokes out of the top 15. Freshman Lucia Gutierrez saw a string of five consecutive bogeys sidetrack her opening round as she sits 43rd with a 79-76=155 (=11).

Carly Childs scored a 78-79=157 (+13) and Jo Ee Kok carded a 78-81=157 (+13) to round out the California effort Monday.
