BERKELEY – The California women’s golf opens its spring season at the Peg Barnard Invitational hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto.
The 36-hole tournament will feature 14 teams at the par-71, 6,084-yard course from Feb. 15-16. Teams will play 18 holes each day with a 9 a.m. shotgun start slated for both days of the tournament.
The Bears will go with a lineup of Hannah Suh, Morgan Thompson, Lucia Gutierrez, Carly Childs and Nicola Rossler this week. Suh, Thompson, Childs and Rossler all competed for the Bears in last season’s runner-up finish at the tournament with Thompson finishing fourth individually with a 69-72=141 (-1).
California has twice won the Peg Barnard Invitational with back-to-back titles in 2011 (579) and 2012 (587). Rossler competed for Cal during both title runs, finishing 13th in the 2012 season and 34th in the 2011 season. A Golden Bear has won individual medalist honors three times. Emil y Childs – sister of Carly – won in 2011 and 2012, and Joanne Lee won the title in 2010.
COURSE: Stanford Golf Course (par 71; 6,084 yards) – Stanford, Calif.
FORMAT: Two-day, 36-hole tournament with 18 holes each day. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
TEE TIMES: There will be a shotgun start both days of the tournament with a tee time of 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
