BERKELEY – California freshman Lucia Gutierrez (Lima, Peru) competed at the South American Golf “Copa los Andes” in at the par-72 David Gutierrez Golf Course in Bogota, Colombia from November 21-24. Nine South American teams competed at the tournament with Gutierrez representing as a member of the Peru delegation that placed third overall with 9 points.
Teams competing in the four-day tournament were Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela. Colombia won the overall championship with 13 points to best Argentina. Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador and Chile rounded out the placements.
The third-place finish was an improvement of four spots from Peru’s team finish at the 2012 tournament.
Individually, Gutierrez was third overall at the match play event that is in its 68th year after being established in 1944. It was her third time competing for the Peru Women’s National Team at the event after also competing at the 2010 and 2012 tournaments.
The Copa Los Andes is one of four major tournaments held annually by the South America Golf Federation. Individuals played 36 holes a day, spending the morning session in couples and participating in singles matches in the afternoon.
