BERKELEY – The California women's golf team has inked Norwegian international Marthe Wold to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season.
Wold, of Sandnes, Norway, is the first Norwegian to sign with the Golden Bears. A member of the Norwegian Girls National Team in 2012-13, Wold was a gold medalist at the Norwegian Junior Team Championship in 2012. She has represented Norway in four European Team Championships (2009, 2011-13). As an individual, Wold has six top-three finishes at the Norwegian Championships and won the Titleist Tour Order of Merit in 2012.
A second-place finisher at the Irish Girls International Stroke Play Championship in 2013, Wold was also fifth at the French International Junior Lady Championship in 2012 and 10th at the European Ladies Championship in 2013.
“We are very excited to have Marthe join our team next fall as she brings deep international golf experience and is a wonderful fit academically,” California head coach Nancy McDaniel said. “Marthe will be able to step right in and help this team with her strong work ethic and her love of the game. Our northern European players have historically been some of our strongest players throughout the years and we are happy to have our first player from Norway.”
Wold, who attends Wang Toppidrett in Stavanger, is coached by Jan Egil Nærland and will help Cal fill the void after the graduation of senior Nicola Rössler.
