BERKELEY – The California women’s golf team returns to action this week at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by Washington at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.
The 54-hole tournament will feature 13 teams at the par-72, 6,039-yard course from October 8-9. Teams will play 36 holes Tuesday before playing the final 18 holes on Wednesday in pairings to be determined by score. The Sahalee Country Club has played host to many prestigious tournament through the years, including the 1998 PGA Championship, the 2002 NEC World Championship and, most recently, the 2010 U.S. Senior Open.
The Bears will go with a lineup of Nicola Rössler, Carly Childs, Lucia Gutierrez, Hannah Suh and Jo Ee Kok this week. Rossler is the only current Bear to have competed at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational when she was a freshman at the 2010 tournament in Tacoma. This tournament will mark the collegiate debut of Gutierrez, a freshman from Peru.
California has twice won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational with back-to-back wins in 2009 and 2010. The 2009 team of Emily Childs, Joanne Lee, Pia Halbig, Roseanne Niven and Diane Kwon took a victory with a score of 897, led by top-10 finishes from Childs (3rd), Lee (4th) and Halbig (6th). The 2010 team of Childs, Halbig, Lee, Daniela Holmqvist and Rossler won by two strokes with a 847 with Cal’s top four finishers all placing in the top 10 – most notably Emily Childs’ individual championship finish at 206.

FORMAT: Two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 36-hole, shotgun start on the first day followed by an 18-hole final day with pairings determined by first-day team scores. The top four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
