BERKELEY – Coming off a busy weekend at the Panorama Farms Invitational this past Saturday in Virginia, the California men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete in Sacramento on Friday, Oct. 4, in the NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
The men's 8,000-meter race will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the women will follow up with a 5,000-meter race at 10:30 a.m. (PT). The event will include several regionally and nationally-ranked teams, including fellow Pac-12 schools UCLA, USC, Oregon State and Washington State on the women’s side, and UCLA on the men’s side. The Bears will get a preview of the course they will compete on Nov. 15 in the NCAA West Regional.
In its last competition this past Saturday, the Golden Bear men placed ninth and the women placed sixth at the prestigious Panorama Farms/Virginia Invitational. Junior Kelsey Santisteban led the way for the women, finishing fourth individually with a time of 16:51.8 in the 5,000-meter race. Senior J.P. Slater paced the men with a time of 24:24.3 in the 8,000-meter race to place 39th overall.
Following Friday’s meet, a select group of Bears will head to Terre Haute, Ind., site of this season’s NCAA Championship, for the Pre-Nationals race on Saturday, Oct. 19. An additional group of Bears will head to Santa Clara, Calif. to compete in the Bronco Invitational the same morning.
