MADRID, Spain – The Canadian Youth National Team, led by Cal freshmen Emma Wright and Kindred Paul, captured the Silver Medal at the FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships after dropping a hard-fought 5-4 decision to the United States in the championship match on Sunday.

Wright scored a goal for the Canadians to finish with 13 during the tournament.

The Americans scored in the final minute for the win.

Paul will now travel to Berkeley to begin her freshman year. Wright will remain with the Canadian National Team program until her obligations are complete.

The Bears now have six medalists from international competition this summer.

The 2015 women’s water polo season opens in January.
