Cal will host a junior meet Jan. 9-11 to help raise funds for menís program

BERKELEY – The California Golden Bears men’s gymnastics program announced Monday that they will be hosting the first annual Cal Benefit Cup on Jan. 9-11 at the RSF Fieldhouse on campus. The junior meet will allow youth gymnasts from around the country to showcase their talents while also raising funds for the men’s gymnastics team in Berkeley. The Golden Bears will also be hosting Bay Area rival Stanford at Haas Pavilion on Saturday night as part of this exciting weekend event.

"We encourage everyone to come join the celebration of men's gymnastics!” Cal associate head coach Brett McClure said. “Not only will this be a phenomenal competition for the Juniors, it will also highlight an exciting competition between Cal and Stanford on Saturday evening. We are extremely thrilled to have this opportunity to showcase our sport and benefit men's gymnastics at the same time! We look forward to seeing everyone there."

Registration for junior gymnastics teams and individual gymnasts is open now, and will be available until all slots are full and all slots are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested gymnasts can register here, and all entrants will receive a Cal Benefit Cup T-shirt.

Fans are able to purchase an All Session Pass for $25 (adults) and $10 (children aged 4-12 and seniors), which includes the Level 10 Finals. Full pricing information is available here.

The competition is set to begin on Friday, Jan. 9 with the Level 9 competition at approximately 12:40 p.m. PT, with the junior and senior Level 10 competition following at approximately 4:00 p.m. Saturday kicks off with Level 4 and 8:10 a.m., followed by Level 5 at 11:30 a.m. and concludes with the Level 10 Finals at 5:30 p.m. The meet concludes on Sunday, Jan. 11 with Level 5 at 8:10 a.m., Level 7 at 11:00 a.m., Level 6 at 1:50 p.m. and Level 8 at 4:40 p.m.

It is the purpose of the Cal Benefit Cup to provide a quality meet in which: junior athletes can enjoy the excitement of competing on a college campus, we can raise awareness of the value of collegiate gymnastics competition and 100% of proceeds will go directly to the Cal men’s gymnastics program.
