CHICAGO - United States Soccer announced the 19-man roster for their U-23 team for their camp in Nassau, Bahamas on Friday, which included former Cal defender Christian Dean. The camp will be held from Aug. 3-7, and will include a match against the Bahamas Senior National Team on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Thompson A. Robinson National Stadium.

This marks the second time and third time overall that Dean has been called into U.S. men's national team youth camps recently, after being included in the U-21 outfit earlier this year as part of U.S. soccer's preparation for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

"Christian has an incredible upside with his combination of skill and athleticism," California head coach Kevin Grimes said of Dean's inclusion in the roster. "His continued development in Vancouver will enhance his chances of success at the international level. We are all very proud of his call up to the U-23 USMNT."

Dean, 21, was the third overall pick in the 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft this past January by Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The East Palo Alto, Calif. native spent three seasons with the Golden Bears, appearing in 55 games, all starts for Cal with one goal and eight assists as a defender. He was named to the Pac-12 and NSCAA Far West Region's first teams as a junior in 2013. Dean has appeared in three matches with Vancouver's first team this season in MLS play, while also starting both legs of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal earlier this year.

The Bears open their 2014 campaign on the road on Friday, Aug. 29 in Chapel Hill, when they take on the University of North Carolina. A matchup with another perennial power, Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on Sunday, Aug. 31 follows before the Bears return to Berkeley to open their home slate against Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. PT on Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium.
