John Hubbell Inducted to USTA NorCal Hall of Fame

STANFORD, Calif. – California men’s tennis alumnus John Hubbell earned induction into the USTA Northern California Hall of Fame, USTA NorCal announced. The induction brunch and ceremony take place on Thursday at the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford.

A respected teacher of the game, Hubbell has coached for more than 30 years at various levels, including college, ATP and WTA and as a USTA National Coach in Player Development, impacting the lives of several future professional players. Hubbell was a Golden Bear letterwinner from 1976-77 and graduated from Cal in 1977, when the Bears reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.John Hubbell's USTA Norcal Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Hubbell coached at San Jose State for 17 years, producing 14 winning seasons. He coached future pro and current Stanford assistant coach Brandon Coupe to All-America honors in San Jose. Hubbell captained the USTA Junior Davis Cup team from 1985-88 and also coached the squad, including such future pros as Brad Gilbert, Patrick McEnroe and MaliVai Washington.

The former Bear, who has also been a personal coach for the likes of Jeff Tarango, Jim Grabb and Robin White, previously served as the head tennis pro and is now the director of tennis at Bay Club Redwood Shores in the San Francisco Bay Area.
