Cal Men Advance at World Rowing U23 Championships
Varese, Italy – Friday’s action at the Men’s World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy, saw several Golden Bears advance.
Great Britain, with Cal’s Morgan Hellen (five-seat) won Friday’s repechage with a time of 5:36.14 to advance. The Netherlands eight, stroked by Cal’s Niki Van Sprang, placed fourth in the repechage with a time of 5:43.48.
The United States men’s eight, featuring Cal’s Spencer Hall (five-seat), and Australia men’s eight, featuring Golden Bears Louis Snelson (five-seat) and Aaron Wright (six-seat) already advanced to the semifinals with their performance in Thursday’s heats.
The United States men’s four, stroked by Cal’s Justin Murphy, advanced to this weekend’s final after placing third in the semifinals on Friday with a time of 6:00.46. Romania captured the semifinal race with a time of 5:56.94.
The U.S. men’s pair of Golden Bears Jordan Vanderstoep (stoke) and Cole Reiser (bow) finished second in Friday’s repechage with a time of 6:46.48 to move on to the semifinals this weekend. Romania captured the heat with a time of 6:44.66.
