Varese, Italy Junior Kendall Chase and the United States women’s four captured the gold to highlight an action-packed Saturday at the Women’s World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy.

Chase, rowing in the bow-seat for the United States captured gold in Saturday’s A final with a time of 6:43.24 in the women’s four, besting second-place New Zealand (6:45.91).

The United States women’s pair, featuring Cal’s Agatha Nowinski in the bow-seat, took home the silver in the A final on Saturday. The U.S. finished the course in 7:15.84, behind gold medalist New Zealand’s time of 7:02.89.

Incoming freshman Katarina Floyd placed fifth in the C final for the United States in the lightweight women’s single sculls on Saturday, finishing the course in 8:10.70. Belarus won the C final with a time of 7:57.32. 

Senior Ingvild Roenningen, competing for Norway as the bow-seat in the women’s pair, captured gold in the B final on Saturday with a time of 7:33.76. The Germany women’s pair of Golden Bears Charlotte Siering and Dorothee Beckendorff placed sixth in Saturday’s B final with a time of 8:29.01.

The United States women’s eight, featuring three Golden Bears –Nowinski (stroke), Chase (seven-seat), and Lindsay Meltz (coxswain) – won its heat on Thursday and will race in the A final on Sunday.  

The Australia women’s eight, featuring Cal’s Jacinta Edmunds in the seven-seat, placed second in Friday’s repechage with a time of 6:18.85 and will race on Sunday.

On Friday in women’s double sculls, Norway, featuring Cal’s Inger Kavlie (bow-seat), won its repechage with a time of 7:13.39 to advance to Sunday’s B final.
