Bears Compete On Day Two at World U23 Rowing Championships
Varese, Italy – Highlighted by a first-place finish for three Golden Bears in the United States women’s eight, all nine Cal women’s crew standouts competing in the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships rowed on Thursday in Varese, Italy. Action continues Friday and Saturday, culminating with the Finals on Sunday, July 27.
The United States women’s eight, featuring three Golden Bears – Agatha Nowinski (stroke), Kendall Chase (seven-seat), and Lindsay Meltz (coxswain) – won its heat with a time of 6:25.13 on Thursday.
Australia, featuring Cal’s Jacinta Edmunds in the seven-seat, placed third in the heat with a time of 6:33.06.
Incoming freshman Katarina Floyd placed fourth in her heat for the United States in the lightweight women’s single sculls with a time of 8:31.16. Belgium captured the heat with a time of 8:02.08.
In women’s double sculls, Norway, featuring Cal’s Inger Kavlie (bow-seat), placed fourth in its heat with a time of 7:21.35. Romania won the heat with a time of 7:06.96.
Senior Ingvild Roenningen, competing for Norway as the bow-seat in the women’s pair, placed third in Thursday’s repechage with a time of 7:49.21. The Germany women’s pair of Golden Bears Charlotte Siering and Dorothee Beckendorff placed fourth in the repechage with a time of 7:56.97.
