Four Bears Row On Opening Day at World U23 Championships

Varese, Italy Four Golden Bears rowed in the opening day of competition at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships on Wednesday in Varese, Italy. Action continues with heat racing on Thursday, culminating with the Finals on Sunday, July 27.    

Former Golden Bear Agatha Nowinski, along with Jessica Eiffert, took first place for the United States in the women’s pair with a time of 7:19.46.

Cal’s Kendall Chase served as the bow-seat in the women’s four for the United States that won its heat on Wednesday with a time of 6:59.81.  

The Germany women’s pair of Golden Bears Charlotte Siering and Dorothee Beckendorff placed fifth in their heat with a time of 7:41.79. New Zealand took first place in the heat with a time of 7:13.51.

There are a total of nine Golden Bears competing in the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Chase, Nowinski will also join Lindsay Meltz in the W8+ for the United States, junior Jacinta Admunds, will row in the W8+ for Australia, incoming freshman Katarina Floyd will compete in the LW1x for the United States, and senior Ingvild Roenningen and sophomore Inger Kavlie will represent Norway in the W1x, and Kavlie W2x, respectively.
