DALLAS, Texas – Junior running back Daniel Lasco was named Thursday as a preseason candidate for the 2014 Doak Walker Award. Lasco is one of 53 players nationally on the list for the award that is presented annually to the nation’s top running back.

Lasco is expected to begin training camp sharing the team’s top spot at running back with Khalfani Muhammad after impressive and mostly 2014 spring practice sessions and promising campaigns each of the last two seasons. Lasco rushed 67 times for 317 yards and two touchdowns to rank tied for second on the team in rushing touchdowns last year, while he was also third in both rushes and rushing yards.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name the Doak Walker Award semifinalists November 18 and the award’s national selection committee will cast votes to determine the finalists to be announced November 24. The committee will cast a second vote beginning December 1 to determine the recipient.
