HOUSTON – Former California men’s basketball standout center Richard Solomon will play with the Houston Rockets in the NBA Orlando Pro Summer League, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Solomon is the eighth former Golden Bear currently with an NBA team, joining Ryan Anderson (New Orleans Pelicans), Allen Crabbe (Portland Trail Blazers), Jorge Gutierrez (Brooklyn Nets), Justin Cobbs (Memphis Grizzlies), Jason Kidd (head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks), Shareef Abdur-Rahim (Director of Player Personnel of the Sacramento Kings), and Sean Marks (assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs).

The Pac-12’s rebounding king as a senior, Solomon averaged 10.2 rpg. this past season as the Golden Bears’ starting center. In a vote by the conference’s coaches, he was recognized as one of the top front court players, earning league honorable mention laurels in 2013-14. Solomon was one of just three individuals in the six power conferences, along with Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes and Kentucky’s Julius Randle, to average a double-double with 11.0 ppg. to go along with his 10.2 rpg. average. He ranked 11th nationally in rebounding.

After posting just four double-doubles in his first three seasons, the senior recorded nine double-doubles in 30 games his senior year. His 307 rebounds in 2013-14 were seventh-most on Cal’s single-season rebounding chart. The 6-10 center posted a career-best 17 rebounds against Oakland and 16 each against Colorado and Denver as a senior. Solomon finished his career eighth on Cal’s all-time rebounding chart with 759 in 109 career games.

He also ranked among the school’s all-time leading shot blockers, ranking fourth on the career blocks list with 119 and 10th on the single-season blocks chart with 39 as a senior. The center’s 1.3 bpg. average was seventh-best in the Pac-12 in 2013-14.

Solomon completed his four years at Cal with 885 career points, including a career-best 22 against Syracuse in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Houston is one of 10 teams competing in the 2014 Orlando Pro Summer League with games beginning Saturday, July 5 on the practice court of the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center.

The Rockets’ summer league schedule includes games against Detroit (July 5), Orlando (July 7), Philadelphia (July 8) and Memphis (July 10) before competing in the designated championship day on July 11.

NBA TV will televise the Orlando Pro Summer League games with a complete schedule of games, while fans once again will be able to watch every game live on NBA.com and on the NBA Game Time app.
