LONDON – Brandon Hagy and Joël Stalter were named to the prestigious 2014 All-Nicklaus Team announced Monday by the Golf Coaches Association of America to honor players from Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA for their outstanding play during the 2013-14 collegiate season. Both were named first-team Division I PING All-Americans by the GCAA last month.

The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history’s greatest player Jack Nicklaus but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988. The Nicklaus Award is annually given to the top collegiate men’s golfer in Divisions I, II, III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.

Hagy was also a first-team Golfweek All-American who also captured the Byron Nelson Award, Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Tom Hansen Pac-12 Conference Medal, co-team MVP honors, Cal’s Ben Furth Award and a Golden Bear Achievement Award in 2013-14. In addition, he was a national semifinalist for The Ben Hogan Award, a first-team All-Pac-12 selection, the Pac-12’s Player of the Month for September of 2013 and chosen to represent Team USA in the 2014 Palmer Cup along with Cal and Palmer Cup head coach Steve Desimone. The event will be played at the Walton Heath Golf Club just outside of London in Surrey, England, this Thursday-Saturday, June 26-28.

Hagy was an individual medalist three times during the 2013-14 campaign (Jack Nicklaus Invitational, Arizona Intercollegiate, Aggie Invitational) and finished in the top 10 in 10 of 14 events with nine of those showings in the top five. He was also Cal’s top finisher in five events and led the team with a 70.98 stroke average. Hagy finished the season ranked No. 6 nationally by both Golfstat and Golfweek.

Stalter added second-team All-American recognition from Golfweek and was a national finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, a first-team All-Pac-12 pick and the team’s co-MVP along with Hagy.

Stalter matched Hagy’s three victories in 2013-14 (Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Arizona Intercollegiate, National Invitational Tournament) while totaling six top-five finishes and seven top-10 showings among his 13 events. He was Cal’s top finisher or tied for the top a team-high eight times all coming over the Bears’ last 11 events, including a tied for fourth place showing at the Pac-12 Championship and a tied for 19th place finish at the NCAA Championship that were both the best of his career at the events. Stalter finished the season with a 71.64 stroke average that was second among team’s regulars behind only Hagy.
