Spain, Canada Have One-Goal Losses At FINA Super Final
By Cal Athletics on Fri, June 13, 2014

KUNSHAN, China – Cal’s Roser Tarrago and Emma Wright each came up one goal short playing for their respective countries Friday during the quarterfinals of the FINA World League Super Final.

Tarrago had the game’s final shot during Spain’s 9-8 loss to China, but it was saved by the China goalkeeper as the clock ran out. Wright, playing for her native Canada, fell to Australia 8-7. The Canadians had a few desperate shots in the final seconds but couldn’t convert the equalizer.

Tarrago was an MPSF All-Newcomer pick last season as a freshman, when she finished fifth in the conference at 2.04 goals per game. Wright is an incoming Cal freshman who will join the program once her obligations with the Canadian National Team are complete.

Spain will take on Russia on Saturday while the Canadians meet Brazil.
