BERKELEY – Former Golden Bear center-back Nina Pedersen will be continuing her career overseas as the newest member of the Liverpool Ladies Football Club, the organization announced today.
Pedersen joins the Ladies following the club’s 2013 Women’s Super League championship-winning season. The team is heading into the second half of the 2014 WSL season undefeated, adding to a strong club that already includes one former member of the Cal women’s soccer team. Pedersen’s defense will aid former Golden Bear midfielder and Liverpool Ladies midfielder Katrín Ómarsdóttir, who played for the Bears from 2008-2010.
“We are so happy for Nina,” said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. “Nina is a first-class person and was a wonderful ambassador for our Cal women’s soccer program. She is a fantastic player and will do very well for Liverpool."
In her two years as a Golden Bear, Pedersen appeared in 38 games, starting 24. In the 2013 season alone, Pedersen appeared in 18 games, starting 16. Pedersen scored two goals in her first season in Berkeley and was instrumental in five of the six shutouts during Cal’s 2013 season en route to a 10th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Pedersen started her collegiate career at the University of Texas, where she was selected to the Big-12 All-Newcomer Team as a freshman in 2010.
