MILAN, Italy – The Cal Volleyball team played Club Italia for the second night in a row, and this time the Bears were on the losing end of a 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20 decision at the Centro Pavesi Sports Center.
It marked Cal’s first loss on its European Tour, which so far has taken it to Montreux, Switzerland, Milan, Italy and Bibione, Italy. The Bears also defeated Club Italia, an Italian Volleyball Federation team made up of top youth and junior national team players, in four sets on Wednesday.
The match culminated the Bears’ only full day in Milan, and the team spent most of the day sightseeing. Cal bussed to Bibione the next morning, and was able to stop off in Venice for about three hours of sightseeing along the way.
Junior middle blocker Lillian Schonewise led the Bears with eight kills and five blocks. Senior opposite hitter Christina Higgins added eight kills and three blocks while sophomore libero Maddy Kerr had 14 digs.
The Bears will not play any matches in Bibione, but may get in some pick-up beach volleyball time. Cal will stay in Bibione through Sunday, and then it will be off to Maribor, Slovenia for three matches against various junior national teams.
