WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. – Cal first baseman Devon Rodriguez – who had a strong senior season after battling injuries the past two years – has been named first-team All-Pac-12; while senior closer Trevor Hildenberger and junior shortstop/outfielder Derek Campbell were tabbed honorable mention all-conference, it was announced today by the league office.

As a sophomore, Rodriguez produced the clutch game-winning hit versus Baylor in the 2011 NCAA Houston Regional. He was named the Houston Regional MVP after leading the Bears back from a 7-1 deficit versus Baylor by earlier hitting a two-run homer in the contest, thus helping propel Cal to the 2011 College World Series. After suffering through injuries in 2012 and 2013, Rodriguez returned in 2014 to lead David Esquer’s squad in home runs (seven, third in the Pac-12) and RBI (34), including a game-winning home run versus San Francisco and a two-home run game at USC.

Rodriguez concluded his Cal career with a .280 average in 204 games with 212 hits, 31 doubles, a triple, 22 home runs and 130 RBI. He also had two grand slams as a Golden Bear.

Senior closer Hildenberger developed into one of the school’s top relievers the past two years after only seeing action in 11 games his first two seasons at Cal before switching to a side-arm delivery. In 2014, he tied a school record for single-season saves with 10 (with Jesse Ingram in 2004), while also going 3-3 with a 2.86 ERA and recording 48 strikeouts with only 11 walks in 47.2 innings.

As a freshman, Campbell (who is a senior academically) came off the bench to replace an injured Tony Renda at second base during the Super Regional and CWS. He thrived in the spotlight, going 4-for-8 in the Super Regional wins over Dallas Baptist and went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the Omaha win over Texas A&M. In 2013, Campbell got his leg broken playing at Houston only 11 games into the season. He was able to come back for the 2014 campaign, leading the team with 14 doubles (sixth in the Pac-12) and tying Rodriguez with a team-leading seven home runs (third in the Pac-12).

“I am proud of Devon for a well-deserved honor and glad that Trevor and Derek were also recognized by the Pac-12,” said Esquer, who has had 29 first-team all-conference selections in 15 seasons as the Bears’ mentor. “They were great senior leaders for us and will be missed.”
