BERKELEY - Senior catcher Mike Reuvekamp knocked in the game-winning RBI win the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning to lead Cal baseball to a 7-6 extra-inning win over Arizona Saturday night at Evans Diamond.
It was a dramatic win for the Golden Bears (22-26, 10-16), who evened their series with the Wildcats (20-31, 9-20), who had won Friday's game, 6-0.
Reuvekamp, who got his game-winning hit off of Arizona reliever Bobby Dalbec (4-4, 5.0 innings, five hits, two runs, three walks, two strikeouts).
Dalbec had hit pinch hitter Jacob Wark to lead off the 12th, then sophomore right fielder Brian Celsi singled on a slash hit through the left side of the infield. Freshman center fielder Aaron Knapp followed with a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt that Wildcat third baseman Willie Calhoun tried to get the lead runner (pinch runner Chris Paul) forced out at third base. With the bases loaded, Reuvekamp drilled a single to center field.
The winning pitcher for the Bears was redshirt freshman Jordan Talbot (1-0), who was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 12th inning by getting Arizona catcher Riley Moore to fly out to left field.
Some other highlights for the Bears Saturday included Celsi getting a two-run single in the sixth inning and Bruno getting a clutch two-out RBI single in the ninth inning to send the game into extra-innings.
