BERKELEY – California senior Alice Duranteau earned the ITA/Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sportsmanship and Leadership Award for the Northwest Region, the ITA announced this week. The Golden Bear is currently in Atlanta, Georgia, where sixth-seeded/ranked Cal is playing 11th-seeded/ranked Stanford in the NCAA round of 16.

A native of Paris, France, Duranteau has developed into a leader on and off the court as well as in the community. During her time at Cal she has seen success on the courts, in the classroom and as a team captain.

Duranteau has been an academic leader for the Bears her entire career at Cal. She will graduate in December with a degree in integrative biology and plans to go to medical school. She values the level of training she received at Berkeley and feels compelled to help those less fortunate around the world and share her knowledge.

The veteran Bear played singles in Cal’s 4-0 NCAA first-round win over Fairleigh Dickinson on May 9 in Berkeley, though Cal clinched the overall contest before Duranteau’s match ended, and it was abandoned. She currently has a singles record of 14-5 and a doubles mark of 6-6.
