HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. – Cal senior goalie Jon Sibley and former Golden Bear star John Mann are among 13 athletes who have been selected to represent the United States’ senior national team at the for the upcoming FINA Men's Intercontinental Qualification Tournament, May 26-31 in Shanghai, China. The tournament in China will serve as a qualifier for the FINA World League Super Final this June in Dubai.
Team USA will open group play with matches against China, South Africa and Brazil. The final day of competition is set for May 31. Upon returning from China, Team USA will take part in a four game series with Serbia (June 4-8) at four locations in Northern California (information TBA).
Sibley, a 6-6 goalie from Lafayette, was a 2012 honorable mention All-American for the Bears and is a two-time ACWPC and MPSF All-Academic selection. He has tallied 247 saves in two seasons for Cal.
One of the top players in school history, the 6-6, 250-pound Mann was a 2012 USA Olympian at the London Games and was the first Bear to capture the Peter J. Cutino Award as the nation’s top collegiate water polo player in 2006. The award was named after the former Cal water polo coaching legend, Peter Cutino. As a senior in ‘06, Mann led the Bears to a 31-4 record and both the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and NCAA titles.
