TEMPE, ARIZ. - Cal baseball gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lose its second extra-inning game in-a-row, falling to host Arizona State, 3-2, Friday night (April 11) in Tempe, Ariz. The Golden Bears had fallen, 6-5 in 10 innings last Sunday versus Washington State in Pullman.

Cal (14-16, 3-7) had tied the game, 2-2, in the seventh inning on sophomore catcher Mitchell Kranson's RBI double, scoring sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris who had led-off the seventh with a double.

In the bottom of the 10th, ASU (18-13, 8-5) scored the winning run when Jake Peeveyhouse reached base and advanced to second on Bear second baseman Brenden Farney's fielding error, and then scored on Christopher Beall's RBI single to right field off of Cal senior reliever Trevor Hildenberger.

The Bears had missed an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the ninth inning when junior third baseman Chris Paul led off with a single and Kranson walked, but was then able to hold the Sun Devils scoreless with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth behind the pitching of Hildenberger.

Senior designated hitter Devon Rodriguez had earlier given Cal its first run of the evening with a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning. Freshman right-hander Daulton Jefferies had given the Bears a solid start, going 7.0 innings with nine hits, two runs, no walks and four strikeouts.

Rodriguez, Halamandaris and Paul finished with two hits apiece for Cal.

The Bears will next face ASU in the second game of the three-game Pac-12 series Saturday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Packard Stadium.
