Losing is never easy. It’s never fun. It’s never the goal or the result you want. That’s what makes this season so difficult. We are all challenged to find the silver lining in our losses to this point. The reality is sometimes there isn’t one. Sometimes there isn’t some deep hidden profundity in a loss. Sometimes there isn’t one magical answer to fix what hasn’t gone right.
Sometimes you just have to get back to work, keep making adjustments and continue working on getting better every day. If you’re not as good as you want to be, get back to work. Hit the wall, hit the net, hit the treadmill - whatever it takes.
As coaches, we have a limited number of chess moves but we’d be foolish not to exhaust them all. So we’re trying new things, we’re tinkering with lineups and trying everything we can to get that next win. We are challenged to best position our players to be successful. That means making some tactical changes and rethinking what we’ve done to this point. It’s never easy or comfortable, but adaptation is a necessity as a coach.
The focus has to be one game at a time and how do we win the next one. Hopefully that next win fuels the fire for more. No it wasn’t a win on Senior Day, but we played our best game to date overall and gave our alums, families and fans a fun game to watch. This game was filled with exciting moments that we hope to replicate through the rest of this season. On to the next game, the next opponent and the next opportunity for that complete game. Thanks to all the friends, fans and alums that supported us on Senior Day! Go Bears!
