Every season has its tests. Going into the season as a coach, you accept that you probably won’t win them all and you expect there to be rough patches in the season. As a coach, you want your team to be tested at some point. You want them to be pushed and you want your team to have faced some level of adversity. It’s what makes your players stronger and gives them the confidence to fight back in any scenario.

Well, we have certainly faced that adversity up to this point.

This is a test. This time right now is a test. We are being tested on our resolve and our will to keep working through our mistakes. Can we hold ourselves individually accountable for our day-to-day actions? This is a test of our unity. Can we continue to support each other through this storm or will we turn on each other and point fingers? This is a test of our hunger and our desire. Will we give up on the goal simply because it’s harder than we thought? No, we have not accomplished to this point what we wanted, but that does not mean that we can’t or won’t. Simply put - when the mountain gets taller, climb higher.

What has happened so far does not have to dictate what will happen in the future. WE dictate what happens in the future. Lesser teams might prematurely throw in the towel, but we still have eight games left, six of which are in conference. This is only the midway point of our season. No, we didn’t expect to be here, but there is still a lot of lacrosse yet to be played. For us, it’s about playing better. We are only better from our losses if we can apply what we’ve learned about ourselves to future games.

Coming off this road trip we know we must do these things better - take care of the ball better, be decisive, play with composure, respond sooner with more urgency and trust each other more. This is, perhaps, more adversity than I would have liked but there is a strength and a resolve that this team can be credited for. The only problem is that they don’t keep track of effort on the scoreboard - only execution.

With two tough conference matchups this week, the time to execute is now.  Go Bears!
