NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The California women's lacrosse team ended its three-game East Coast road trip with a 17-6 loss at Yale, Friday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. Junior Gaby Christman notched a hat trick for the Golden Bears. With the loss, the Golden Bears fell to 2-6 on the year.

"This was a game we let slip away," head coach Ginger Miles said. "It got away from us early. They went up by five goals, and it was hard to come back from a deficit like that. It's hard to come back against a good team. We were doing everything we could to get back into it.

"We've got Oregon and USC coming to town next week. We'll get back to working on finishing our opportunities, playing with discipline for the entire game and playing with a sense of urgency."

Bella Huther, Amelia Burke and Nicole Beck scored the other Cal goals, while Beck, Paige Gasparino and Lizz Lavie also recorded assists on the day.

In addition to her three goals, Christman also tallied five draws, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Bears gained an early 2-1 lead with goals from Burke and Christman at the 20-minute mark of the first half. Yale then went on to score four goals in a row and six of the remaining seven in the first half.

Cal tried to make a comeback in the second half when Christman and Huther scored back-to-back goals to cut the Yale lead down to 9-6 with 18 minutes left in regulation. But Yale went on to score the final eight consecutive goals to end the day.

Jacqueline Pelletier garnered four ground balls, while Marissa O'Meally and Michaela Bird finished with three.

Next week is a big week for Cal lacrosse. First, the Bears will host Oregon on Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. That game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. Please be aware there will be no live stream for that game because it will be on TV. Then on Sunday, April 6, the Bears will celebrate their 15-year anniversary with a pregame event at the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Plaza beginning at 11 a.m. Cal will host USC at 1 p.m. that day.
