BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Suffering from some second-half struggles, the California women's lacrosse team lost to Lehigh, 9-7, Wednesday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. True freshman Bella Huther scored twice to lead the Bears, while junior Gaby Christman had a goal and two assists. Cal fell to 2-5 with the loss.

The Bears led, 6-2, four minutes into the second half before Lehigh started its comeback. Lehigh went on to score seven of the final eight goals of the day to escape with the narrow victory.

"We played ball in the first half, and we corrected a lot of things that we had talked about since our last game, but we're still looking for a way to finish out close games," head coach Ginger Miles said. "As the game wore on, we lost our discipline, strayed from our game plan and we made too many mistakes. We gave them too many opportunities to catch up and take the lead."

After Lehigh scored the first goal of the day, Cal took control in the first half, scoring four unanswered goals. Caroline Schlegel scored the Bears' first goal, followed by Christman, Huther and a free position goal from Amelia Burke

Lehigh got one back with five minutes left in the half, but Cal went into the break with a 4-2 lead.

In the second half, Paige Gasparino scored on a free position shot and Huther notched her second goal of the day to increase the Cal lead to 6-2 before Lehigh started its comeback. Lizz Lavie garnered Cal's final goal of the day.

Now with 20 goals this season, Huther is the team leader in that category, and she is tied with Gasparino for the team lead in points (20).

In addition to her three points on the day, Christman also chipped in with six draws, four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Goalie Helen Hansen made seven saves on the day.

Cal looks to salvage one win on this road trip as the Bears will face Yale on Friday, March 28, at 10 a.m. PT.
