Waco, Texas -- The California Golden Bears dropped a 75-56 decision in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament to the No. 2 seed Baylor Lady Bears. Baylor will advance to the Third Round to play Kentucky in South Bend, Indiana.

Afure Jemerigbe led Cal with 17 points while Brittany Boyd recorded 15 points, seven assists. Gen Brandon set Cal's NCAA Tournament single-game rebounding record with 15. Brandon also passed Lisa Leslie and into sole posession of No. 5 on Cal's all-time rebounding list with 1219.

Boyd was often gimpy and grimacing in the game, but played all but the final 46 seconds even while dealing with a right ankle injury for several weeks. "It's never easy when a season ends with a group of people you love being around and want to keep playing with," third-year Cal coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. "One of our goals this year was to play until somebody beats us, until someone takes it from us. I thought Baylor did that tonight. I think this is a terrific team with an unbelievable home atmosphere and a lot of really good players."

The battle of Bears included seven ties and 17 lead changes before halftime, when Baylor was without both Sims and Davis for 7 1/2 minutes because of fouls.

The last lead change came on a Baylor 3-pointer just before halftime for a 34-33 lead. Baylor never trailed again, and opened the second half with seven consecutive points -- all by Davis and Sims. "We just weren't putting the ball in the basket," Boyd said. "We had a couple of easy baskets we could have made, but it wasn't going in. We never lost focus. We fought all the way to the end."
