BERKELEY – One of the academic powerhouses among the 30 programs at California, the 16th-ranked women’s tennis team – along with the 14th-ranked men’s tennis team – will be honored for its academic and athletic success at the men’s basketball game vs. Utah on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

While the Golden Bears' success on the courts has been regularly chronicled, there are also numerous examples of the Bears’ academic prowess through the years. They range from the team’s 100-percent Graduation Success Rate from 2003-06 to, more recently, Anett Schutting’s Athletic Study Center Student-Athlete of the Month award. A senior sociology major, Schutting collected the comprehensive award in November based on her commitment and motivation in the classroom.

At Wednesday’s basketball game, the men’s and women’s tennis players will be presented to the crowd and then, using their rackets, the Bears will hit Cal T-shorts into the stands.
