BERKELEY – Cal (8-2), winners of six straight games and undefeated in two straight tournaments, return to Berkeley tonight (March 4) to host Bay Area rival Stanford (4-7) in a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Evans Diamond. The contest will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Ted Robinson (play-by-play) and former San Francisco Giant standout J.T. Snow (analyst) announcing.

Tonight’s game is the first of 12 Cal baseball games (eight home games) to be aired this season by the Pac-12 Networks.

Cal baseball went undefeated at the University of San Diego Tournament, defeating the host Toreros, 5-2, in the Golden Bears' second game Monday after earlier in the day topping Baylor, 5-3. David Esquer's squad – which had defeated Baylor, 8-5, Saturday – also went 3-0 Feb. 21-23 at Auburn Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala. with victories over East Tennessee State (3-0), Auburn (5-0) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (8-3).

Junior left-hander Michael Theofanopoulos (1-1, 3.27 ERA, 11 strikeouts in 11.0 innings) is slated to start on the mound for Cal Tuesday night. He was outstanding in his last start with a career-high nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings Feb. 23 versus Arkansas Pine Bluff. A tentative starter for Stanford is freshman right-hander Tyler Thorne (1-0, 2.89 ERA).

The Bears currently lead the Pac-12 with an 8-2 record and are on top of the conference with a 2.00 team ERA. Individually, senior left fielder Vince Bruno is sixth in the league with a .548 slugging percentage and seventh with a .387 batting average, while junior outfielder/second baseman Derek Campbell is fifth with four doubles. On the mound, senior right-hander Trevor Hildenberger is third in the Pac-12 with six appearances, Theofanopoulos is fifth with a .143 opponent batting average, freshman right-hander Daulton Jefferies is sixth with a 1.08 ERA, and senior left-hander Kyle Porter is ninth with a 1.35 ERA.

Last season, Cal was 0-5 versus the Cardinal. In 2012, the Bears concluded their season defeating the Cardinal two of three games at Sunken Diamond, including winning 5-4 in 18 innings on May 25, 2012 - the longest game in Cal baseball history. The Bears’ last win over Stanford was a 15-5 victory May 26, 2012 at Sunken Diamond.

Following the mid-week game versus Stanford, the Bears host the Cal Baseball Classic, March 7-9 at Evans Diamond.
