Cal baseball (7-2) faces San Diego in second game today

SAN DIEGO - The Cal baseball team won the first of two games scheduled today, topping Baylor, 5-3, Monday at Fowler Field in San Diego. The Golden Bears will next play host San Diego, beginning at 3 p.m.

With the win over Baylor, Cal improves to 7-2 overall and have now won five straight games. Versus the Baylor Bears, the Golden Bears were led by junior second baseman Brenden Farney and sophomore catcher Mitchell Kranson with two RBI apiece, while junior third baseman Chris Paul (two doubles) and sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris had two hits apiece.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Ryan Mason picked up his second win in relief, coming in in the sixth inning and throwing 2.0 innings with four hits, one run, no walks and a strikeout. Senior right-hander Trevor Hildenberger earned his third save of the year, pitching the final 1.1 innings with one hit, no runs and one strikeout.

Freshman Alex Martinez also threw well for the Bears, replacing freshman starter Alex Schick and pitching 3.1 innings with two hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts.
