BERKELEY – California Golden Bears head coach Kevin Grimes announced today that the program has signed seven players to National Letters of Intent for their 2014 class. The Bears are coming off of a record-setting season that saw them ranked number one in the country for a six-week period for the first time in school history. They advanced to the school’s third ever quarterfinal appearance and earned the NCAA tournament’s fourth overall seed, the highest ever for the program.

“We are really excited with our 2014 recruiting class,” Grimes said. “These seven players fit perfectly into our team’s style of play and our program’s culture. We expect to have more signings as well in the very near future.”

Cal signed the following new Bears: Marko Helfrich (midfielder), Matt Locklear (defender), Jorge Miranda (defender), Joshua Morton (defender), Ugo Rebecchini (defender), Aravind Sivakumar (midfielder) and Eloi Vasquez (midfielder/forward). Six of the seven are California natives, with four hailing from northern California, two coming from the southern portion of the state and one making the transition to Berkeley from Rome, Italy.

They will join a team who had several players depart after the historical 2013 run, including those selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in January; All-Pac-12 selections Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Christian Dean (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Ryan Neil (Real Salt Lake) and Alec Sundly (New England Revolution).
