ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The California Golden Bears wrapped up competition at the Cherry & Silver Invitational on Saturday and leave the meet with two individual titles in hand, both earned on Friday night. Saturday saw junior transfer Milan Ristic finish second in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, and other Golden Bears set or match PR’s.
“I was especially pleased with the overall poise and competitiveness by everyone, considering the quality of teams competing at the Cherry and Silver,” Director of Track & Field Tony Sandoval said on Saturday afternoon. “There were some truly outstanding marks throughout the two-day meet. Milan, Charnell Price and Ethan Cochran really stood out today for the Golden Bears with outstanding places and PR's, while the trio of Joost de Jong (1:20.69) Ivan Gonzales (1:21.33) and Josh Lewis (1:22.39) each won a section of the 600 meters late on Friday night.”
Ristic, a transfer from UNC-Asheville, tied his indoor PR in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 7.75, just a tenth of a second shy of the meet record and also just short of the Serbian national record for the event. His finals time of 7.85 saw him fall just short of USC’s Aleec Harris, who tied the meet record of 7.74 to take the event.
Senior Charnell Price placed fourth in the women’s 60-meters with a time of 7.45, which was the third best 60-meter time in school history, behind Antonette Carter (7.33) and Cherrelle Garrett (7.36).
Sophomore Ethan Cochran set an indoor PR in the men’s shot put with a mark of 56-0.25, placing fifth in the event. Redshirt sophomore Jonte Grant posted also posted an indoor PR of 50-7.25 in the triple jump, which placed him sixth.
California will be back in action at the University of Washington Indoor and Multi’s Meet next weekend, beginning on Friday. Log on to CalBears.com for the full season schedule.
