I know that it's been said that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Well, for your Cal Women’s Water Polo Team, we look forward to January. It’s time for season, baby!
Welcome back, Bear fans! It’s been a long and busy Fall for your Cal Bears, and I can not tell you how excited the team is for our season-opener this Saturday. At 11 a.m., we will be playing against the University of Pacific in what I expect will be a high-energy and exciting game. The team has been back together for about ten days now and we have been busy preparing for season. It's definitely a challenge, both mentally and physically, to train for at least five hours a day. But the team has remained extremely positive and you can see the progress we are making.
Of course, it’s not just about training here at Cal. During our time off from practice, our remaining energy has been spent on another important topic, something the entire team is very passionate about. ...Juan Pablo.
Of course, I’m talking about the reality show, The Bachelor! For those of you who don’t follow the TV series, the show has everything you could possibly want - love, handsome men, comedy, and many awkward moments. The team has been debating which girl we believe will "win." My money is on a girl named Kelly, whose occupation is dog lover. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what that requires but I like the sound of it. I wonder if Cal has a Dog Loving Major. I’m definitely going to look into it.
Since we have been back, we have also had the opportunity to go over to Coach Corso’s house for a Mexican feast. I think that the team could have set a record for the amount of food we consumed. After we had stuffed our faces, we were given a gift from Rich and his wife - a beautiful scarf that will go perfectly with some our new uniforms, especially our new jackets! Thanks, Rich and Cathy!
Speaking of gifts, we were also given a holiday gift from Matt and his family. Each girl was given a Golden Bear decked out in a specialized Cal T-shirt (the back of the shirt had our last name and cap number on it). We were also given the novel, The Alchemist. We have been reading the book together as a team and have been meeting to go over some of the important themes in the book that we can use in the pool. It definitely makes for an interesting conversation to see how the book is affecting each person. Thank you to the Flesher Family!
Well, that’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you all at the pool on Saturday! GO BEARS!
