Kastler Second on 1-meter at Bruin Invitational

Sophomore leads Cal divers on opening day of competition.

LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Anne Kastler finished second on the 1-meter board Friday to lead the Golden Bear divers on the first day of the Bruin Invitational at UCLA.

Seeded fourth after posting a score of 264.70 during the morning preliminaries, Kastler accumulated 282.10 points during the finals to give her a total of 546.80 points for the day, pushing her into the runner-up position.

In addition to Kastler, senior Kahley Rowell placed 12th overall, with a score of 227.35 in the prelims and 232.95 in the afternoon for a total of 460.30 points.

Other Bears in action included Hayden Tavoda (21st, 209.60), Mckenna Kurz (25th, 198.90) and Eleanor Smart (28th, 192.15). In all, 40 divers competed Friday, with USC’s Haley Ishimatsu taking overall honors with 590.90 points.

The Bruin Invitational continues through the weekend with 3-meter competition Saturday and platform on Sunday.
