BERKELEY – Cal’s women’s water polo team was picked fourth in the preseason Mountain Pacific Sports Federation poll released Monday. It marks the second consecutive season the Bears have been predicted to place fourth in the conference standings.
Defending NCAA champion USC was selected to win the conference championship with 34 points and four first-place votes. Stanford was just behind in second with 33 points and three first place votes. UCLA was picked to finish third.
The Bears return four starters from last year’s team that went 17-7 and finished in fifth place in the MPST standings. Cal also welcomes an elite recruiting class to Berkeley, headlined by 2012 Olympians Roser Tarrago of Spain and Dora Antal of Hungary.
