BERKELEY – Women’s basketball player Hind Ben Abdelkader scored a career-high 18 points, all coming on a stellar 6-of-9 effort from the three-point line, to earn California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
The freshman’s six three-pointers were two shy of the program-record of eight set by Paige Bowie in 1998 and are the most made by a freshman in a single-game in the Lindsay Gottlieb era.
Due in large part to Ben Abdelkader’s shooting, No. 22/21 California made a school-record 11 threes in its 70-51 win over Bakersfield.
The game marked the first time that a freshman has led the Golden Bears in scoring this season. Ben Abdelkader also added two rebounds and one steal to cap her night.
