Homa and Kim Remain Among Leaders at Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Former Cal men’s golfer Max Homa and current junior Michael Kim remained near the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the fourth of six rounds Sunday at the final stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament. Homa (72-64-67-69 – 272, -16) is tied for fifth, while Kim (68-69-66-70 – 273, -15) is a stroke back tied for seventh.
Both came into Sunday’s action tied for fourth and played in the same threesome on the PGA West Jack Nicklaus Course.
Homa had four birdies and one bogey during his three-under par 69. He had back-to-back birdies on the par-three third and par-five fourth holes before a bogey on the par-four ninth ended his front nine at one-under. Homa picked up two additional strokes on the back nine with birdies on the par-five 11th and 15th holes.
Kim had three birdies and one bogey, all on par-four holes, over his two-under par 70. He got to three-under for the round after birdies on the second, sixth and 13th holes. His bogey was on the 14th.
Scott Pinckney (68-67-67-65 – 267, -21) took over the lead after four rounds after shooting a seven-under par 65 on the Nicklaus Course that tied for the third-best round of the day.
The winner and ties from the event’s 152-player field receive exemptions to play on the 2014 Web.com Tour. Players finishing after the winner through 10th place including ties are exempt until the third periodic re-order of the tour’s 2014 season, while players finishing after 10th place through 45th including ties are exempt until the second periodic re-order of the 2014 campaign.
Homa turned professional earlier this year following the end of his collegiate career at Cal, while Kim is one of three amateurs playing in the event.
The fifth round of the tournament is scheduled to be played Monday with Kim scheduled to tee off from the first hole of the PGA West Stadium Course at 10 a.m. PT and Homa at 10:20 a.m. All players in the field are scheduled to play a single round each day at either the Nicklaus Course or PGA West Stadium Course through the end of the event Tuesday.
