BERKELEY – Cal junior Michael Kim has taken over the No. 1 ranking in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking as of Thursday.
“It’s great, exciting and well deserved,” Cal head coach Steve Desimone said. “He’s been playing very well of late. He’s back on track, and it’s fun to watch. It’s very special and says a lot of really good things about our program.”
Kim is one of three amateurs currently playing in the third stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament that runs through next Tuesday at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif. Kim was the unanimous 2012-13 national player of the year in men’s collegiate golf.
