BERKELEY – Cal quarterback Jared Goff had successful surgery Wednesday to repair a separated shoulder suffered during the team’s final game of the 2013 season at Stanford. Goff is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the Golden Bears’ 2014 spring practices.

Goff broke Cal single-season records for passing yards (3,508), total offense (3,446), passes completed (320) and passes attempted (531) as a true freshman in 2013 when he started all 12 games. Goff also threw 18 touchdown passes to tie for 10th on Cal’s all-time single-season list.

In addition, Goff broke a single-game school record with 504 yards passing against Washington State and has become the second quarterback in Pac-12 history to throw for 450 yards or more three times, adding 450 in his collegiate debut against Northwestern and 485 against Portland State. He also threw for over 300 yards against both Ohio State (371) and Washington (336) to give him five 300-yard passing games, tied for fourth all-time at Cal.

“We are pleased that Jared is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the field for spring ball,” head coach Sonny Dykes said. “We have confidence he can build on the promising campaign he had in his first season at Cal.”
